砂金や砂白金を見たことありますか？キラキラと美しい光沢を放つ北海道を代表する天然の鉱物です。2016年、日本地質学会は、全国47都道府県に特徴的に産出する、あるいは発見された岩石・鉱物・化石をそれぞれの「県の石」として選定しました。北海道からはかんらん岩（岩石）、砂白金（鉱物）、アンモナイト（化石）が北海道の石として選ばれました。
　この「弥永コレクション」では、北海道の石の一つに選出された砂白金を始め、弥永芳子氏の寄贈資料を紹介しています。弥永氏は、貨幣と砂金・砂白金の研究を長年続けられ、1985年には収集した資料を展示した「弥永北海道博物館」を開館された方です（2015年閉館）。
　この展示会の注目としては、北海道の河川から採取された日本最大の砂白金塊と、現存しているものでは国内最大と考えられる砂金塊です。それ以外にも、北海道で発見された貴重な陸ガメの化石やナンヨウシダの化石、日本及び世界各国の貨幣などの資料を展示しています。

9th Themed Exhibit ‘The Yanaga Collection’
　Have you ever seen placer gold or iridosmine? Distinguishable by their beautifully glittering luster, these precious metals are perhaps the best known natural minerals found in Hokkaido. In 2016, the Geological Society of Japan selected ‘prefectural stones’ for each of the nation’s 47 prefectures, celebrating the discovery or notable production of rocks, minerals, and fossils in each prefecture. Peridotite (rock), iridosmine (mineral), and ammonite (fossil) were selected to represent Hokkaido.
　This display, ‘The Yanaga Collection’, introduces a number of materials donated by Ms. Yoshiko Yanaga, including iridosmine, which is designated as a prefectural stone of Hokkaido. The centerpieces of this exhibit are the largest nugget of iridosmine ore in Japan, which was collected from a river in Hokkaido, together with a nugget of placer gold, which is thought to be the largest in the nation. The exhibit also includes valuable fossils discovered in Hokkaido, such as fossilized tortoises and fossilized tree ferns, and pieces of currency from Japan and throughout the world.
